Sabres G Miller out indefinitely with concussion link BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP)—Buffalo Sabres goalie Ryan Miller(notes) is out indefinitely with a concussion after being leveled by a hit from Boston Bruins forward Milan Lucic(notes).
The Sabres revealed the nature of Miller’s injury late Sunday, a day after he was hurt. They also announced goalie Drew McIntyre had been called up from Buffalo’s AHL affiliate in Rochester. McIntyre is expected to serve as backup to Jhonas Enroth(notes) on Monday night at Montreal.
Miller was hurt about 14 minutes into the first period of a 6-2 loss at Boston on Saturday night, when he left his crease to play the puck before being checked by Lucic, who was attempting to chase down a loose puck. Lucic received a minor penalty for charging.
Miller continued playing through the end of the second period, before being pulled after allowing three goals on 22 shots.
The 2010 Vezina Trophy-winner did not return to the bench for the third period, but made sure to stick around to provide expletive-laden postgame comments.
“(Lucic has) 50 pounds on me and he runs me like that? It’s unbelievable,” Miller said. “Everyone in this city sees him as a big tough solid player. I respected him for how hard he played. That was gutless.”
Immediately after being hit, Miller used his stick to take a swipe at Lucic but missed.
Sabres coach Lindy Ruff said following the game that Miller had a sore neck.
This is the second concussion for Miller in a span of eight months. He missed four games late last season after struck in the mask by shots in back to back outings.
Miller has struggled of late, having allowed 20 goals on 148 shots in going 1-5 in his past si

Thursday, 06.30.2011 / 6:51 PM / News Buffalo Sabres Buffalo Sabres GM Darcy Regier announced today the Sabres have signed unrestricted free agent defenseman Christian Ehrhoff to a long-term contract. Buffalo acquired the exclusive rights to negotiate with Ehrhoff from the New York Islanders in a trade on Wednesday night.
“I was originally going to wait and see what was available on the free agent market,” said Christian Ehrhoff. “After the Sabres acquired my rights and I spoke with Terry Pegula and Darcy Regier, I did my due diligence on the team and I was very impressed. I called some former teammates and others in the NHL who also had great things to say and I was aware that Robyn Regehr had waived his no-trade clause in his contract this week to join the Sabres. My goal is to win the Stanley Cup, and after the offer I received from Buffalo, I believe this is the best place to make it happen.”
Ehrhoff (7/6/1982, 6’2”, 203 lbs., shoots left) played with Vancouver this season and was seventh among all NHL defensemen in scoring. He posted career highs in points (50) and assists (36) in 79 games, and matched his career best with his second straight 14-goal season. Ehrhoff collected 28 (6+22) of his 50 points on the power play, good for fourth among NHL blueliners. He was also second on the team in blocked shots (108) and time on ice (23:59).
Ehrhoff played in all 23 of Vancouver’s Stanley Cup playoff games, and was second only to San Jose’s Dan Boyle in defenseman scoring with 12 points (2+10).
In 500 career games with Vancouver and San Jose, Ehrhoff has 226 points (53+173), 338 PIMs and is a plus-74. Ehrhoff, who turns 29 next Wednesday, has only missed 15 games in the past five seasons. He also has 34 points (7+27) in 73 career playoff games.
Ehrhoff is a veteran of international play, having represented Germany at the Winter Olympics in 2002, 2006 and 2010. At just 19 years of age, Ehrhoff was the second youngest player in the 2002 Games.
A native of Moers, Germany, Ehrhoff was originally drafted in the fourth round (106th overall) by San Jose in the 2001 Entry Draft. After playing five seasons with San Jose, he was traded to Vancouver in August 2009.

Still going off on UFAs

Have we made any offers to any of our UFAs yet? Most notability Henrik Tallinder?
If I was ruler of this world I would say so long to Torres, Mair, Ellis, and Lalime. Making roster spots for Ennis and Gerbe. Then sign Colby Armstrong and bring in the newly waived Johnathan Cheechoo for one last chance at getting close to that 56 goal year again. Do I think he would ever do it again, not at all. But could he get him for cheap, I am sure of it. Oh and find a new back up for Miller.

ATTENTION BORED HOCKEY FANS
During this off-season, and before the real fun starts with free agents on July 1st, let's hold a little voting session, shall we?
This will be like the All-Star team, except with hockey uggos.
Submit your nominations for the ugliest members of the NHL and we can take votes for the starters. Please post an image to support your nomination for your member of the All-Uggo 1st Team.
C'mon. This is hilarious!

UFAs

I have been going through the lists of all the potential UFAs come July 1st trying to think who we could sign or who I would even want us to try and sign. I was just curious to see if any of you guys were looking in on this and had any players in mind you would like to see Darcy go after? And is there any good local news coming out of Buffalo that I don't get out here in Seattle about our guys? I liked our 1st round pick, good skating puck handling D man. We can always use those guys.
And I am probably alone on this but I would really like us to sign Colby Armstrong.

"Last night's Game 1 of the 2010 Stanley Cup Final produced the best overnight rating for a Game 1 in 11 years. The 2.8 overnight rating and 6 share for the Philadelphia Flyers-Chicago Blackhawks Game 1 is the best since 1999 (Buffalo vs. Dallas, 3.7 on Fox). NBC also won the night finishing No. 1 in primetime (1.7, A18-49)."
I'm pretty sure that credit belongs entirely to the city of Buffalo. haha

Friday is the night we get everyone back and turn this thing around! And also is the night the refs give us some of those all for you Penguins calls! Now I am not saying that the refs are the only ones to blame here in this series, we need to play better and more solid hockey. But I know I am not alone out there when saying I think that we are getting the short end of the stick on these calls!
Reason why I mention the Penguins is that when I was watching game 4 against the Sens I was astonished as to what was being called on the Sens and what was not being called on the Penguins. And it is usually like that for the most part when I can stomach watching their games.
Yes, I hate #87, Jack Edwards, and when Mike Grier doesn't back check and pick up his man! But I love the Sabres and all of you fans out there. One day I will make the 3,000 mile trip and see a home Sabres game and chant, Lets! Go! Buffalo!, with you all. And in the words of Lindy Ruff, "case closed!"

Only a matter of time I suppose

I guess it was bound to happen sooner or later. It was an impressive run, 1st time this year to lose a game after leading after 2 periods. I was so happy when the population went up by another in the 2nd. What happened to us in the 3rd? Oh well, gotta play strong for these next two games in Boston.
Though that was a nice two handed axe chop to Vanek's knee! Vanek, Hecht, and Stafford now! Somebody tell me they will be back for game 3 or game 4? You can lie to me if you have to.
Lets Go Buffalo!!
